The Pineapples and I were at the Barrington St Superstore yesterday to pick up some odds and sods to do us over for a couple of days. Pineapples saw an incredibly large sign that said something like “Locally Grown Fruit! Only at Your Superstore!” and made a beeline over to the cart to check out the shape of their store’s berries. (It was late afternoon, so the Farmer’s Market was long shut down by then.)
When she got there, she found the motherload of blueberries and strawberries - from America! The blueberries were sourced from New Jersey, and the strawberries from California. I was ready to take the ginormous sign down, but due to my old age, I instead added a simple note that said “Local does not mean NJ or Cali” to their display.
It’s a new take on my old culture-jamming ways (excuse the pun).
